Healing from Sexual Trauma at Sarah Lawrence College

“Healing from Sexual Trauma” is two part trauma-informed workshop led by licensed counselor, Davia Roberts. With a specialization in sexual trauma, Davia will provide education about the nuances of sexual assault that can impact survivors' ability to disclose and seek support. The workshop will discuss how publicized assaults like Bill Cosby, Weinstein, & #MuteRKelly can be used to encourage or silence victims, dependent on the public's reaction to beloved celebrities. The workshop will discuss coping skills and boundary setting to protect the healing process of survivors. Additionally, attendees will be provided with guidance about how to effectively support survivors after sexual trauma is disclosed, along with resources for long term support.

Additionally, Davia will lead a restorative and trauma-informed yoga flow that will create a safe space for survivors to get in touch with their breath and bodies. The flow will combine a series of breath work, guided meditation, and asana poses that focus on healing and power. Attendees will be provided with journaling prompts to continue the reflective process after the workshop has concluded.
